Understanding that mental health, trauma and addiction experiences do not occur in isolation, Re-awaken intends to explore the knowledge base and experiential journey of social connection, compassion and meaningful action. These three themes underpin the spirit and value of the workshops and all other aspects of Reawaken Australia.
What will it look like?
We'll be offering spaces not only for learning and hearing from presenters but also a collective space for hearing from each other as a community. All presentations will offer a reflective space within their workshops and twice daily we will hold community forums to bring together ideas from within the conference community. Believing that change occurs within communities of support and mutual influence we hope to provide spaces for the conference community to move together towards meaningful and tangible outcomes that we can each take home to our own communities at the end of the conference. We also hope to empower people to stay connected within the communities they create at the conference, to continue to build momentum for change and social support.
Re-Awaken Australia is inspired by the award winning film Healing Voices that brought communities together across the world to hold conversations about new paradigms and meaningful change. Building on the success of facilitating community and conversation evoked by the powerful social action documentary format, Re-Awaken will bring the community together each evening by watching a movie and facilitating a community discussion.
CRAZYWISE follows two young Americans diagnosed with “mental illness.” Adam, 27, suffers devastating side effects from medications before embracing meditation in hopes of recovery. Ekhaya, 32, survives childhood molestation and several suicide attempts before spiritual training to become a traditional South African healer gives her suffering meaning and brings a deeper purpose to her life. CRAZYWISE adds a voice to the growing conversation that believes a psychological crisis can be an opportunity for growth and potentially transformational, not a disease with no cure.
RECOVERING ADDICTION: A Public Health Rescue Mission.
